Mike Perk and Jason Bagley take you through how the 2010 Soccer World Cup draw will work. They have setup their own draw and explain all the permutations and rules regarding the draw.

The 4 pots are as follows:

Pot 1: (seeds) South Africa, Brazil, Spain, Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Argentina, England

Pot 2: (AFC, Oceania and Concacaf) Australia, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Honduras, Mexico, USA, New Zealand

Pot 3: (CAF and rest of South America) Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Algeria

Pot 4: (rest of UEFA) Denmark, France, Greece, Serbia, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Switzerland

The basic rules of the draw

  • South Africa are automatically added to Group 1
  • The first 2 African teams drawn from Pot 3 will be placed in the groups with Brazil and Argentina
  • The first South American team drawn from Pot 3 will be placed in Group A with South Africa

Group A: South Africa, Honduras, Chile, France

Group B: Spain, South Korea, Ivory Coast, Portugal

Group C: Argentina, USA, Nigeria, Slovenia

Group D: Brazil, Mexico, Algeria, Serbia

Group E: Netherlands, New Zealand, Ghana, Greece

Group F: England, Japan, Cameroon, Switzerland

Group G: Germany, North Korea, Paraguay, Slovakia

Group H: Italy, Australia, Uruguay, Denmark

Very informative draw guys. Wasn’t 100% sure of the basic draw rules myself.

Hopefully Bafana Bafana come away with a “easy” group.
